Welcome to the Holland Mission Circuit Youth Fellowship (YF) of the Wesley Methodist Church, Amsterdam.

Brief History

In 1998, a year after the establishment of the Wesley Methodist Church, Amsterdam, sister Grace Ening, an executive of the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) in the Northern region of Ghana, came for a visit at the Wesley Methodist Church, Amsterdam Society.

During her visit she suggested that it would be a good idea to start a fellowship for the Youth. Those interested met with her and she explained and discussed with them a few things concerning a Youth Fellowship.

The group appointed Mrs. Hughes as leader. Since the membership of the Church was small, there were not many young people to join the Youth Fellowship, so many older people joined the young ones to start a Youth Fellowship. At that time the Fellowship was able to send second hand goods to the Upper Region, Ghana and purchased MYF badges for the Methodist Youth-Ghana.

The aim of the older people was to train and equip the younger ones for the Youth Work. Unfortunately, the members were not committed, so it was suggested that it would be better for the older ones to leave the Youth Fellowship so that the younger ones could organize themselves. The commitment among the youth was still poor. Attendance at meetings on Sundays was not encouraging. The Youth Meetings were then shifted to Wednesdays and Fridays and led by brother Cephas Mensah, brother Kwabena Owusu Twumasi and brother George Kofi Hughes. Still, the attendance was poor so these days were rather used for prayers for a revival in the Youth Fellowship.

Just at that time that the Youth Fellowship was struggling to grow, God used our Minister, The Very Rev. Isaac Amoah, to encourage the Youth Fellowship. He regularly visited the Youth-Meetings and gave exhortations and offered spiritual guidance, which God used to strengthen the foundation on which the Youth Fellowship has been built. God used the encouragement of Rev. Amoah to increase the membership of the MYF. Sister Sophia Gyimah was appointed by the Leaders Meeting to assist with the organisational work of the Youth, the work she remains devoted to till now.

Presently, it is our aim to help all the Methodist Societies within the Holland Mission Circuit to organise their youth. It is therefore worth mentioning that since last year, through the effort of the Amsterdam Branch a new MYF branch has been opened at The Hague.

By the grace of God the Amsterdam Youth Fellowship is actually involved in Church activities like Praise & Worship and lay Bible Reading. Our weekly programmes on Fridays are Bible-studies, Talks & Exhortations, Prayer Meetings, Sharing of Testimonies, Training in Evangelism and many other activities. Through these activities God is manifesting himself through the Youth Fellowship. Our number has increased to forty.

  • Our fellowship which has as its motto - we work ,we witness, we worship provides a means of fellowship within the Methodist Church - suited to the needs of young people.
  • The fellowship aims to help young people to come to a personal faith in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and provide opportunities to study, discuss and pray about their growing faith in Him.
  • It also helps to deepen members understanding of the Christain faith and its application to personal, social and economic life.
  • The MYF trains young beliveres to seek spiritual and physical fitness so as to be good citizens of the nation and to encourage them to render practical services for and on behalf of the church of Christ while helping to deepen their understanding in ecumenism
  • In fulfillment of our basic aims and objectives, we endeavour to involve young believers in meeting the needs of the unevangelized, the poor, the lonely, the needy, the sick and the handicapped.

It is our u'tmost desire and prayer that we might remain as effective instruments in God's hands in these last days doing exploits for the Lord.
